Davida Hewlett is an artist whose work is made up ofvarious combinations of video, performance, text, music and installation featuring low-tech inventions and actions that can be uncomfortable and absurd. Her work has been seen at theatres, clubs, festivals and art galleries across the UK and internationally.
Davida’s projects are often humorous, playful, in response to site, and made in collaboration with others. Her penchant for bringing people together to express themselves, and making things from what’s available (social/economic democracy of the homemade) is reflected in her ongoing participatory work. As an arts educationalist Davida has been delivering projects to diverse sectors of the community (in schools, higher education and with fellow artists) since 1993.
Davida Hewlett studied with The Everyman Theatre (Hope St. Community Arts Project), John Moore’s University, Liverpool, Creative Writing and Visual Art at University of Victoria, B.C., Canada and Visual Performance (now Fine Art) at Dartington College of Arts, Devon.
Originally from Vancouver Island, Canada and Liverpool, England, Davida now resides in Cardiff, Wales with her family.

Sam phoned me up and said,
“You wouldn’t believe what I am standing looking at!”
“It’s a painting of you and Alba in the charity shop! ”

In the charity shop they said 'A local artist' donated it
.
It was on sale for £25.00. They had obviously seen the poster
advertising my project for The Heavenly Project
(with the photo taken of me and Alba by Casey Raymond).

Two weeks later and marking another serendipitous milestone
(following another narrative related to this image)
another painting emerged in a different charity shop.
